On usage: both plans are, roughly, five times their vendor’s $20 plan, but Anthropic states that multiple officially while OpenAI’s figure for Pro 100 is a reported one, and the baselines (ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro) are different products. Neither company publishes message counts; Settings → Usage on your own account is what counts.

Which one for what: five verdicts

1. You code with an agent every day

In Codex, take ChatGPT Pro 100. Pro plans currently have no five-hour limit in Codex and ChatGPT Work (weekly limits may apply), GPT-6 Astra is available in Codex, and since October 9 personal Pro users aged 18 and older get Composer predictions (beta) in the Codex desktop app. When you run over, buy credits rather than jumping a tier: Pro 100 plus up to 2 packs of Codex credits a month (500 credits each) still costs less than a Pro 200 top-up.

In Claude Code, take Claude Max 5x. Claude Code is included and defaults to Opus 5.5, with 5x Claude Pro’s usage per five-hour session and a weekly limit shared with chat; on Max the wrap-up allowance lets Claude Code finish its current step at every five-hour limit (rolling out). If an ANTHROPIC_API_KEY variable is set, Claude Code bills the API instead of your plan.

2. Research, long documents and writing

For very long inputs and long-form writing, Claude Max 5x: context up to 1M (varies by model), higher output limits, Research and Projects. For deep research reports and the hardest reasoning in chat, ChatGPT Pro 100: the Pro card promises “Maximum deep research”, chat has GPT-6 Pro and Extra High thinking, and reasoning models get a 400K context window (256K on Plus).

3. Images, video and voice

ChatGPT Pro 100. The Pro card lists “Unlimited and faster image creation”, the plan table includes image generation with Thinking, Voice is Unlimited* (subject to abuse guardrails) and Voice with video is included. Claude has Voice mode, but Anthropic’s plan table has no image-generation row. Neither pricing page lists video generation, so we don’t compare it.

4. You build on the API

Claude Max 5x. Since October 8 it includes $100 a month in Claude Platform API credits for Claude API, Claude Managed Agents, Claude Agent SDK and Playground, claimable after 7 days on the plan by linking one Console organization. They expire each billing cycle and do not work in Claude Code. ChatGPT Pro includes no API credits. We do not promise the credits: the rollout is staged and eligibility is Anthropic’s call.
