- Every Pro 200 moves to the lower allowance on October 30. Per OpenAI’s Help Center (rechecked 2026-10-14), a Pro 200 subscription that was active at any point from September 22 to 10 a.m. Pacific Time on September 29 keeps the previous allowance through October 29; from October 30 all Pro 200 subscriptions use the lower allowance at the same $200. Reported, not official: GPT-6 Pro in chat goes from 200 to 100 messages a week (Engadget), and Codex and Work usage from about 20x to 10x Plus (OpenAI’s Thibault Sottiaux on X, via kingy.ai). Reports of one-off credits for affected subscribers are second-hand and not in the Help Center, so check Settings → Usage on your own account. If you will hit the new Pro 200 cap every week, read Pro 200 vs Pro 500; the full timeline is in Pro 200 changes on October 30.
- GPT-5.5 retired on October 14 from ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work and Codex on every plan; the OpenAI API is not affected. On Plus and all three Pro tiers OpenAI names GPT-6 Sol (
gpt-6-sol) as the replacement, and no tier’s price or allowance changes because of it. What to change in Codex: GPT-5.5 retired: what to switch to.
Need the highest cap? Go straight to Pro 500
About 25× Plus usage (reported), the most of the three Pro tiers and the only one with Ultrafast. From October 30, Pro 200 moves to its new, lower allowance (about 10× Plus); if you keep hitting the weekly limit, this is the tier to switch to.

- Pro 100: on your own account ¥850 · ready-made ¥899
- Pro 200: on your own account ¥1,300 · ready-made ¥1,349
- Pro 500: on your own account ¥3,599 · ready-made ¥3,699
The three tiers side by side (2026-09-30)
| Tier | OpenAI price | Allowance vs Plus | Ultrafast | Top-up here | Ready-made here |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pro 100 | $100 | OpenAI said 5x in mid-September; no multiple is published now | No | ¥850 ≈ 126.68 USDT | ¥899 ≈ 133.98 USDT |
| Pro 200 | $200 | about 10x for new subscribers, and for every Pro 200 from October 30 (was about 20x, Engadget) | No | ¥1,300 ≈ 193.75 USDT | ¥1,349 ≈ 201.05 USDT |
| Pro 500 | $500 | about 25x (reported, citing OpenAI) | Yes | ¥3,599 ≈ 536.37 USDT | ¥3,699 ≈ 551.27 USDT |
OpenAI’s Help Center now only says that Pro 200 includes more usage than Pro 100 and that Pro 500 has the most; the multiples come from press reports. All three are billed monthly with no annual option, and Pro plans currently have no five-hour limit in Codex (weekly limits still apply). On top of Plus, every Pro tier adds Pro reasoning on GPT-6 Astra, longer Codex and ChatGPT Work sessions, a Dot, and maximum deep research and memory.
September 30: Pro 200 is back, with a smaller allowance for new subscribers
- You can subscribe again. The $200 tier, paused since September 10, accepts new subscriptions from 2026-09-30 at the same $200 a month.
- New subscriptions get less. In OpenAI’s words, new subscriptions “include a lower usage allowance”, which it attributes to more efficient models. Engadget reports about 10x Plus in Codex and Work (it was about 20x) and a weekly GPT-6 Pro cap in chat of 100 messages instead of 200. Other reports note that GPT-6 Sol and Luna API prices were halved, so the practical drop may be smaller than the headline.
- Existing subscribers keep the old allowance until October 29. If your Pro 200 was active at the cutoff or in the seven days before it, you keep the previous allowance through 2026-10-29 while the subscription stays active, then move to the new one at the same price. If it lapsed in those seven days, subscribing again restores the old allowance to the same date.
- It is not an upgrade. A grandfathered Pro 200 stays Pro 200: no Ultrafast, no Pro 500 features.
If you already pay for Pro 200, the practical advice is simple: do not let it lapse this month. Renewal is unchanged and a scheduled cancellation can be undone before the billing period ends.
Pro 500: what the extra $300 buys
- Ultrafast, the high-speed mode of GPT-6 Astra. Reports put it at up to about 300 tokens per second in Codex and Work, roughly 8x Standard. Among Pro plans only Pro 500 has it (pick it in the model picker); buying credits on Pro 100 or Pro 200 does not unlock it.
- It costs allowance. Under OpenAI’s billing rules Ultrafast uses included usage 8x as fast as Standard mode, and Fast mode 2.5x. Leave it on for a long run and the weekly allowance goes quickly, so switch it on for the steps that are time-critical.
- The highest cap. OpenAI says the highest of the three; reports citing OpenAI say about 25x Plus.
The arithmetic most people miss: on the reported multiples, a new Pro 200 costs about $20 per Plus-equivalent and Pro 500 about $20. Pro 500 is not a bulk discount; you pay for speed and headroom. If you rarely hit the Pro 200 cap, it is not for you.
DevDay 2026 features and which plans get them
OpenAI made more than 20 announcements at DevDay on 2026-09-29 and says ChatGPT has 1.2 billion weekly users. The ones that matter for subscribers:
| Feature | What it is | Plans |
|---|---|---|
| Dots (always-on agents) | Give it a standing goal and it keeps working; talk to it in the desktop app, on mobile, on the web, in Slack or Microsoft Teams. Reports say each dot runs on GPT-6 Astra with its own cloud computer and browser | Pro (listed as a Pro feature on the pricing page, all three tiers) and Business Premium in eligible markets; Enterprise, Edu and Healthcare beta when an admin enables it |
| ChatGPT Space | A shared home where teammates, ChatGPT and your dot build on shared knowledge; ChatGPT keeps it organised to your instructions | Pro, Business, Enterprise; desktop and web, with reading and sharing on mobile |
| Pages | A new document type for people and agents to write, chart and design together | Same plans as Space (reported) |
| GPT-6.1 Sol | New model; API $2 / $10 per million input / output tokens. OpenAI’s own evaluations: +6.4 points on DeepSWE over GPT-6 Sol, factual errors down from 11.4% to 7.7% | Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, Edu in ChatGPT Work and Codex; chat later |
| Ultrafast | High-speed GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol | Pro 500 only among personal plans |
| Codex anywhere | Run Codex on your computer, remotely from a phone or in the cloud, with reusable environments | Plus, Pro, Business, Healthcare, Edu, Enterprise |
| Plugin extensions | Plugins get a home in the sidebar, interactive panels and file viewers | All plans |
| Sign in with ChatGPT | Sign in to 16 partner tools such as Devin, Notion and Vercel and spend your plan allowance there | Sign-in everywhere; plan usage in partner tools for Plus and Pro |
Want Dots for a team? Besides personal Pro, OpenAI offers them on Business Premium. Our ChatGPT Business seats let you mix standard and premium seats, two seats minimum.
How to choose
- Mostly chat and writing, occasional Codex: Plus is enough.
- You want Dots, Space and Pro reasoning: Pro 100 has them. The features are the same; only the allowance differs.
- Heavy daily Codex or Work, hitting the Pro 100 cap several times a week: Pro 200. New subscriptions get less than in early September; if you already have Pro 200, keep it running. Step-by-step: How to buy ChatGPT Pro 200, or go straight to the Pro 200 top-up (Free, Plus and Pro accounts all qualify).
- You need Ultrafast, or several dots and agents running for hours: Pro 500. It is not cheaper per unit; you buy speed and headroom.
- You only run out now and then: do not upgrade; buy Codex credits (usable in Codex, ChatGPT Work and ChatGPT for Word, Excel and PowerPoint), which are spent only after the included allowance.

Three things to keep in mind
- One person per account. OpenAI’s terms prohibit sharing account credentials and reselling access, and shared Pro accounts are the ones that get restricted. Both routes are for one user.
- Monthly only. All three Pro tiers bill monthly; no annual plan, no paying several months ahead.
- A limit is not a ban. When a model’s allowance runs out it is unavailable until reset and ChatGPT shows the reset time. Support cannot reset limits.
