What you should see now
Open chatgpt.com/pricing or Settings → My Plan. Pro is listed from $100 a month with a choice of three usage tiers: Pro 100 (formerly Pro 5x), Pro 200 (formerly Pro 20x) and Pro 500, at $100, $200 and $500 a month. Pro 200 is the tier that was missing during the pause. Upgrades to it work again from Free, Go, Plus and Pro 100, but a new subscription gets a lower allowance than before: OpenAI gives no number, and Engadget reports about 10x Plus in Codex and Work instead of 20x. A Pro 200 that was active at OpenAI’s eligibility cutoff or in the seven days before it keeps the previous allowance through 2026-10-29 while it stays active.
If the $200 option is still missing
- Refresh, or sign out and back in. A page or app screen that has been open for a while may not show the current plans.
- Check the workspace. Pro tiers are personal plans. If you are signed in to a Business workspace, switch to your personal account before upgrading.
- Open the Pro card. The $200 option is a usage tier inside Pro (“from $100 / month”), not a separate plan next to it.
- Check the payment side. If OpenAI declines your card or doesn’t serve your country, the option can be there and still not help you; see the routes below.

Do you need Pro 200 at all?
- Pro 100 has the same features as Pro 200 for $100 a month; Pro 200 simply has more allowance. If you rarely hit Pro 100 limits, stay there.
- Codex credits extend Work and Codex usage on the plan you already have. They don’t change your plan, but if you only run out now and then they cost less than upgrading: Codex credits.
- Pro 500 is the highest tier and the only one with Ultrafast; it buys speed and headroom, not a cheaper unit price. See Pro 100 vs 200 vs 500.
Why the option was missing (10–30 September 2026)
During the pause you opened the pricing page, or Settings → My Plan, expecting two Pro tiers and found one: Pro read “From $100 / month · 5x more usage”, the word “200” appeared nowhere, and the upgrade flow ended at $100. It was not your account, region, app store or a bug. OpenAI’s Help Center article About ChatGPT Pro tiers said that as of 10 September 2026 new sign-ups and upgrades to the ChatGPT Pro $200 plan (Pro 20X) were temporarily paused, including from Free, Go, Plus and Pro $100, while existing $200 subscriptions were not affected. Its pause FAQ added: “You can upgrade to Pro $100 from the Pricing page or from Settings → My Plan. New subscriptions and upgrades to Pro $200 remain paused, except for eligible customers using the one-time return.” Press coverage attributed the pause to capacity after the GPT-6 Astra launch.
During the pause the only people OpenAI would sell the $200 tier to were those eligible for the one-time return, and a ready-made account (one that already had the subscription and kept renewing) was the only way in for new buyers. On 2026-09-30 the Help Center replaced the pause notice with the three-tier description, and the pricing page offered the $200 tier again.
