What changed on 30 September
- Pro 200 is open to everyone again. New sign-ups and upgrades to the $200 tier work from chatgpt.com/pricing, still at $200 a month. It is an ordinary subscription: no 30-day window, no once-only limit, no need to have held the tier on 10 September.
- New subscriptions get less. OpenAI says new Pro 200 subscriptions include a lower allowance than before; Engadget reports about 10x Plus in Codex and Work (it was about 20x) and a weekly GPT-6 Pro cap in chat of 100 messages instead of 200.
- The old allowance lasts until 29 October, but only for some. If your Pro 200 was active at OpenAI’s eligibility cutoff or in the seven days before it, you keep the previous allowance through 2026-10-29 as long as the subscription stays active; if it lapsed in those seven days, subscribing again restores it to the same date. After that it moves to the new allowance at the same price.
- Three Pro tiers. OpenAI now sells Pro 100 (formerly Pro 5x), Pro 200 and Pro 500 ($100 / $200 / $500); only Pro 500 includes Ultrafast. Keeping the old Pro 200 allowance does not add Pro 500 features.

What the one-time return was (10–30 September 2026)
While new sign-ups and upgrades to the $200 tier were paused, OpenAI’s pause FAQ let eligible customers return to Pro $200 (then Pro 20x) once. The option was available for 30 days after Pro $200 access ended, including after a cancellation, a failed renewal payment or a downgrade. You signed in to the same account, opened chatgpt.com/pricing and, if eligible, bought Pro $200, which started a paid subscription. All four conditions had to hold:

It was tied to the same account (OpenAI doesn’t transfer subscriptions) and paid to OpenAI, so it also needed a payment method OpenAI accepted. Everyone else, including Free, Go, Plus and Pro $100 users, could not buy the $200 tier until the pause ended. None of this applies any more: if you came back through the return, you simply hold an ordinary Pro 200 subscription, and whether it keeps the previous allowance until 29 October depends on whether it was active at OpenAI’s cutoff or in the seven days before it.
