What a lapse costs you now
Since 2026-09-30 anyone can subscribe to Pro 200 (formerly Pro 20x) at $200 a month, so a lapse no longer locks you out. What changed instead is the allowance. OpenAI says new Pro 200 subscriptions include a lower allowance than before; Engadget reports about 10x Plus in Codex and Work (it was about 20x) and a weekly GPT-6 Pro cap in chat of 100 messages instead of 200. A Pro 200 that was active at OpenAI’s eligibility cutoff or in the seven days before it keeps the previous allowance through 2026-10-29 as long as the subscription stays active; after that it moves to the new allowance at the same price. So if you hold a grandfathered Pro 200, a lapse this month costs you the old allowance for the rest of that period, not the plan. If you subscribed after the reopening, a lapse only costs you the days without it.
The three ways it ends

A fourth, quieter one: downgrading to Pro 100 to save money during a slow month. The downgrade works, and since 30 September so does the upgrade back, but a grandfathered Pro 200 keeps the previous allowance only while it stays active, so upgrading back later gets you the new allowance. If your usage genuinely dropped, Pro 100 (same features, $100 a month) may still be the right call.
If it already lapsed
Subscribe again. If it lapsed in the seven days before OpenAI’s cutoff, subscribing again restores the old allowance until 2026-10-29; otherwise you get the new allowance, like any new subscriber. Three routes:
- At OpenAI: open chatgpt.com/pricing on your account and choose Pro 200, paying with a card OpenAI accepts.
- On your own account, through us: Free, Plus and Pro accounts qualify, for a new subscription, a renewal or an upgrade. You submit the sign-in data the order page asks for, it is checked before you pay, and delivery usually takes 5–30 minutes; your chats and memory stay.
- Ready-made account: an account with Pro 200 already active, for one user, on which you can bind your own email. After paying you enter and verify a delivery email and our team emails the account (the order page shows 30 minutes to about 4 hours). Your old account keeps its history on whatever plan it fell to. What the rule was during the pause (10–30 September 2026)
From 2026-09-10 OpenAI stopped new sign-ups and upgrades to the $200 tier. Existing subscriptions kept renewing, but OpenAI’s Help Center said that once a Pro $200 subscription ended, it could not be purchased again until the pause was lifted. The one exception was a one-time return: for 30 days after access ended, and only for people who had Pro $200 on 10 September 2026 (or lost it in the 30 days before), the same account could buy Pro $200 once more (see the one-time return). That is why this page used to warn that a lapse was almost certainly permanent. The pause ended on 2026-09-30.
