Plus: the feature-complete entry tier
OpenAI's pricing page lists Plus with GPT-6 Astra and GPT-5.6 reasoning, expanded Deep Research, Projects, scheduled tasks, custom GPTs, expanded Codex usage and ChatGPT Work. What it lacks is the Pro layer: GPT-6 Pro as a Chat model, and the Pro-level allowances. For most individuals Plus is the right first account — and if your own account is on Free, a Plus top-up keeps your email and history, which a ready-made account can't. The ready-made Plus is for people whose card is declined, whose country isn't supported, or who don't want to submit their own credentials.
Pro 5x: the working tier
Pro adds the Pro models and OpenAI's “maximum” Codex and Deep Research allowances; GPT-6 Pro becomes available in Chat with a shared pool of 50 messages a week. Codex's GPT-6 Astra allowance goes from 5–45 to 25–225 per five hours. It is the tier for people who hit Plus limits every week, and it is still sold normally by OpenAI — so a top-up on your own Free or Plus account is possible.
Pro 20x: the top tier, and the only one you can't buy elsewhere
Same features as Pro 5x, four times the allowance: 200 GPT-6 Pro messages a week plus a separate 170 Sol Pro a day, Codex Astra 100–900 per five hours. Since 10 September 2026 OpenAI has paused new sign-ups and upgrades to it; existing subscriptions keep renewing, which is the rule a ready-made account lives under. There is no top-up form of 20x for anyone who doesn't already have it. Per unit of allowance it is the cheapest of the three — if you use the units. Who does is in Is Pro 20x worth $200?.

Two things to know before choosing
- A ready-made account is a second account. The login mailbox is assigned by us; your old account keeps its history. Change the password on arrival and use it as one person. How to carry your data across is in Switching accounts and keeping your data.
- Upgrading later works for Pro $100, not for $200. A ready-made Plus can take a Pro $100 upgrade like any account; Pro $200 can't be added while the pause lasts. If 20x is where you're heading, start there.
