This is a research piece first: what Anthropic actually shipped from August to October 2026, read from its newsroom, release notes, help centre and docs on 2026-10-26, and what we think it means for the next 6–12 months. Buying advice comes at the end. For the same exercise on the other labs, see OpenAI’s August–October progress and the cross-vendor Q4 2026 AI industry trends.
The timeline: August to October 2026

| Oct 23 | The unified Claude (chat + Cowork) is generally available for Enterprise, with a new Efficient mode that keeps work on Sonnet and Haiku. Claude Code v2.1.310. | Claude blog, changelog |
Models: the 5.5 family and where Fable 5.1 sits
Anthropic now has four current models at four price points. The headline is Opus 5.5: Anthropic says it “performs at the level of Claude Fable 5.1 on most work” and costs 40% less to run than Opus 5 on typical workloads, with output more than 30% faster. Sonnet 5.5 followed six days later and Haiku 5.5 nine days after that, so the whole 5.5 line arrived in about two weeks.
| Model | Released | API input / output per 1M tokens | Cache read | On subscriptions |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Claude Fable 5.1 | Sep 1 | $10 / $50 | $0.25 | Max and Team Premium: up to 50% of the weekly limit; Pro and Team Standard: usage credits only |
| Claude Opus 5.5 | Sep 22 | $4 / $20 | $0.20 | Included on Pro and above; default model in Claude Code on Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise |
| Claude Sonnet 5.5 | Sep 28 | $2 / $10 | $0.10 (halved Oct 7) | Included on every plan, Free too |
| Claude Haiku 5.5 | Oct 7 | $0.10 / $0.50 | $0.01 | Included on every plan; prompts over 100K tokens bill at $0.50 / $2.50 on the API |
- Fable 5.1 is the premium, metered tier. It is the same model as Mythos 5.1 with stricter safeguards; Mythos 5.1 is limited to vetted security and life-science programs. On subscriptions the rule did not change: Max and Team Premium seats may spend up to 50% of the weekly limit on Fable, while Pro and Team Standard seats pay usage credits from the first message. The earlier promotion that put Fable 5 inside Pro limits ended on July 19, 2026, and Fable 5.1 was never part of it.
- Opus 5.5 is the new default. Claude Code’s model docs list Opus 5.5 as the default on Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise. Fast mode for Opus 5.5 (up to 2.5x speed) costs $8 / $40 on the API, and Claude Code dropped its “research preview” label in v2.1.304.
- Cost cuts keep coming through caching. Fable 5.1 cut cache reads by 75% on Sep 1, Opus 5.5 cut them 60% versus Opus 5, and Sonnet 5.5 cache reads were halved on Oct 7; Anthropic says cache reads are the majority of agentic and coding costs.
Model-by-model detail is in Claude Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5.
Claude Code: 77 releases in twelve weeks
The changelog lists 77 dated releases between August 4 (v2.1.221) and October 23 (v2.1.310): 28 in August, 27 in September and 22 in October so far, roughly six a week. The themes that stand out:
- Extensibility. Mods (Oct 1) let a plugin rewrite prompts, add interface and replace built-in behaviour; the plugin portal (Sep 25) gives developers review status and install analytics, and Anthropic handed the Agent Skills standard to the Agentic AI Foundation on Oct 22. See our mods guide.
- Work that continues without you. Remote Control lets the Claude app or claude.ai/code drive a session that runs on your own machine (Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise), while cloud sessions run on Anthropic’s infrastructure; recent releases are full of cloud-session and Enterprise-permission fixes. Our remote setup guide covers the self-hosted route.
- Team-first tooling. Code Review went GA for Team and Enterprise on Oct 15, with most reviews down from about 20 minutes to 6–10.
- Limit ergonomics. A “wrapping up” allowance lets Claude Code finish the step in progress when the five-hour limit hits (Pro once per weekly period, Max each time), and model pricing updates land in
/costthe week they change.
From Cowork to “just Claude”, and Duet
On Sep 16 Anthropic merged Cowork and chat for Pro and Max: there is no mode to pick, a quick question still gets a quick answer, and bigger tasks continue in the cloud after you close the laptop. Anthropic’s pricing page still says “more plans to follow” for the rest, and the same unified experience became generally available for Enterprise on Oct 23, with an Efficient mode that keeps work on Sonnet and Haiku to control spend. Anthropic’s help article is explicit that everything counts toward plan limits and that agentic tasks use more than a chat.
The making tools moved fast. Docs and Slides launched on Sep 16 and Design moved into every conversation; on Oct 8 all three left beta on every plan including Free, after more than 45 million docs, decks and designs. The same day brought Claude Dashboards (beta on paid plans, live charts over BigQuery, Snowflake, Databricks or a CRM) and Claude Motion (beta on Team and Enterprise, animated explainers built as editable code and exported as MP4). The standalone claude.ai/design site closes on December 14. Background: Claude Docs, Slides, Design and Google Workspace.
Claude Duet (Oct 21) is the newest bet: a separate app where Claude comes to you with a morning brief, watches connected apps and runs tasks in its own virtual machine, asking for approval before it sends, pays, signs or deletes. It is a waitlisted research preview, US Pro and Max first, and it shares the plan’s limits; Anthropic says it checks connected accounts every few hours because checking nonstop would use up limits much faster. How it compares with other always-on agents such as OpenAI’s Dots and Meta’s Muse is covered in Q4 2026 AI industry trends.
Plans, limits and API credits: what changed for subscribers
| Plan | Anthropic list price | Per-session allowance vs Pro | Fable | Monthly API credits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pro | $20 ($17/mo annual) | 1x | Usage credits | — |
| Team Standard seat | $25 ($20 annual) | 1.25x | Usage credits | Up to $500 pooled per team |
| Team Premium seat | $125 ($100 annual) | 6.25x | Up to 50% of weekly | |
| Max 5x | $100, monthly only | 5x | Up to 50% of weekly | $100 |
| Max 20x | $200, monthly only | 20x | Up to 50% of weekly | $200 |
Every paid plan also has a weekly limit across all models that resets at a fixed time assigned to the account; Anthropic publishes no multiples for the weekly limits. What moved in these three months:
- Sep 14: standard weekly Claude Code limits permanently +25%, while a temporary 50% boost ended; Anthropic: “a 17% reduction in weekly limits on Claude Code” compared with the day before.
- Sep 22: five-hour limits raised on Pro, Max, Team and seat-based Enterprise (size not published), plus a one-time limit reset you can save and use later via “Reset for free” in Settings → Usage on the web or desktop.
- Oct 7–8: monthly API credits on Max ($100 / $200) and Team (up to $500 pooled), for your own apps on the Claude Platform; they do not cover Claude Code or the Claude apps and do not change plan limits. Details: Max monthly API credits.
- Oct 21: Duet arrives sharing the same limits, including background work.
Our read: five trends for the next 6–12 months
These are our analysis, not Anthropic statements. Each lists the signals behind it, a confidence word and what would prove it wrong.
1. Limits stay scarce; value comes through cheaper models (likely)
Signals: the Sep 14 change was a net cut in weekly Claude Code limits; two weeks later Opus 5.5 arrived 40% cheaper to run with only a five-hour increase of unpublished size; Oct 7 added API credits and cheaper Sonnet caching instead of bigger weekly caps; Enterprise got an Efficient mode to steer work to smaller models. Our read: expect more levers (saveable resets, credits, per-model caps, efficiency modes) rather than a large across-the-board weekly increase. Wrong if: Anthropic raises weekly limits broadly without a new cheaper model behind it.
2. Agents will spend your limits in the background (likely)
Signals: tasks now continue in the cloud after you leave; Duet runs background checks that count toward limits; Claude Code’s releases centre on cloud sessions, Remote Control and scheduled work. Our read: the same plan will feel smaller for people who turn these on, and usage dashboards will matter more than message counts. Wrong if: Anthropic meters background or proactive work separately from plan limits.
3. Two tracks: making tools trickle down, agent governance goes to Team and Enterprise first (likely)
Signals: Docs, Slides and Design reached Free within a month, while Code Review GA, Motion and Claude Security launched for Team or Enterprise only; Enterprise got Efficient mode, role-based controls for cloud sessions, and the Startups program gives away Team Premium seats. Our read: individual plans get the consumer surface, while governance, review and admin features land on commercial plans first. Wrong if: Code Review or Motion reach Pro and Max within a quarter.
4. Fable stays a Max / Team Premium perk (likely)
Signals: the Fable 5 promotion inside Pro limits ended July 19; Fable 5.1 was never included on Pro or Team Standard; Opus 5.5 now does most Fable-level work at a lower price and is the default everywhere. Our read: Anthropic has little reason to put Fable inside Pro; the 50% weekly share on Max and Premium seats is the likely steady state. Wrong if: Fable becomes included on Pro, or the 50% share changes.
5. Claude Code becomes a platform others build on (possible)
Signals: mods, the plugin portal with analytics, Agent Skills moving to a neutral foundation, and the full Claude Platform on Google Cloud. Our read: more third-party plugins and mods, plus admin controls to allow or block them. Wrong if: the release pace drops sharply or mods stay a niche feature with few listed plugins by spring 2027.
What heavy users should expect
- Watch Settings → Usage, not message counts. Weekly limits reset at a fixed time per account; check the bars before a long job and use a saved reset only when a deadline needs it.
- Default to Opus 5.5, reach for Fable deliberately. On Max, Fable can use up to half your week; on Pro it is billed separately from the first message.
- Background agents cost the same pool. Cloud tasks, scheduled work and Duet all draw on your plan limits, so turn them on where they save real time.
- API credits are a side budget. Max’s $100 / $200 help with your own scripts and agents through the API, not with Claude Code itself.
- Expect more change. Anthropic shipped four models and changed limits twice in twelve weeks; price and allowance tables should be re-read every month.
What to buy now
Usage per price at today’s live prices, using Anthropic’s per-session multiples (weekly limits are not published, so this compares session allowance only):
| Option | Route | Price today | Per-session vs Pro | Per Pro-unit | Fable |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Claude Pro | Top-up on your own account | 37.11 USDT | 1x | 37.11 USDT | Usage credits |
| Claude Max 5x | Top-up on your own account | 148.89 USDT | 5x | 29.78 USDT | Up to 50% of weekly limit |
| Claude Max 6.25x (Team plan, Premium seat) | Ready-made account | 205.52 USDT | 6.25x | 32.88 USDT | Up to 50% of weekly limit |
| Claude Max 20x | Top-up on your own account | 297.92 USDT | 20x | 14.90 USDT | Up to 50% of weekly limit |
- Occasional use, chat, Docs and Slides: Claude Pro. Free now has Docs, Slides and Design, so Pro is for Claude Code, Opus 5.5 and more usage.
- Daily Claude Code, Pro runs out weekly: Max 5x, which also adds Fable up to half the weekly limit and $100 of API credits.
- Claude Code all day, background agents on: Max 20x, the most usage per price here, plus $200 of API credits.
- Your account cannot take a top-up, or you want a separate work account today: Claude Max 6.25x, a ready-made account on the Team plan with one Premium seat: 6.25x Pro per session and Fable up to 50% of the weekly limit. It is not Anthropic’s Max plan. Compare it in Claude Code heavy users: which plan?
How ordering works: a top-up goes onto your own claude.ai account; we check its sign-in data before you pay, you pay nothing if the check fails, and it is usually live in 5–30 minutes (accounts with an unexpired iOS or Android in-app subscription cannot be topped up). A ready-made account is hand-delivered in about 30 minutes to 4 hours after you verify a delivery email; one account per person, change the password on first sign-in. Payment is USDT on TRC20 or BEP20; renew by messaging Telegram @ccnb1937 with your order ID before the 30 days end. Ready-made accounts are not refundable once delivered; if anything goes wrong, contact us promptly.
Risk, briefly: Anthropic’s terms apply per user, accounts can be restricted for policy violations, and access from regions Anthropic does not support may be restricted. ClaudeMax is independent, not Anthropic or an authorized reseller; Anthropic sets plans and limits and may change them again.
