What Pro adds if you never open Codex

OpenAI's pricing page now calls Pro "Best for research and coding". Leave the coding half aside and this is what is left, from OpenAI's Help Center and pricing page as read on 2026-10-21:

• GPT-6 Pro in Chat. The Pro thinking level, powered by GPT-6 Astra, which OpenAI describes as "Pro models for difficult tasks and longer-running workflows". Plus does not get it in Chat. Since October 16 it answers faster, uses plugins and tools better and can split a task across several agents working in parallel. More in How to get GPT-6 Pro.
• Extra High thinking. The highest level available with GPT-6 Sol. Plus stops at Medium and High.
• Deep research. Plus is "Expanded deep research", Pro "Maximum deep research". It reads the public web, your files, connected apps or only the sites you list, shows you a plan you can edit first, and delivers a cited report you can download as Markdown, Word or PDF.
• Bigger context. Reasoning models: 400K tokens on Pro vs 256K on Plus, about 680 vs 320 pages of input. Instant: 128K vs 54K, about 250 vs 40 pages.
• Projects and sharing. 40 files per project and up to 100 collaborators on Pro, against 25 and 10 on Plus. Project instructions override your global ones, which keeps a style guide or a citation format in force.
• Space, Pages and Slides. Space (Pro yes, Plus no) gathers Pages, files and related work and can be shared; ChatGPT Slides, since October 16, builds decks you can edit together and export to PowerPoint, PDF or Google Slides.
• Meetings plugin (beta). On the macOS desktop app, for Pro and Business: it takes notes from what is said and saves summaries with action items; OpenAI deletes the audio once the notes are ready.
• Audio uploads. On every paid plan, Plus included: upload an interview or lecture (up to 512 MB) for a transcript, summary or questions. Details in ChatGPT audio uploads.
• Memory. Plus is "Expanded memory and context", Pro "Maximum memory and context"; OpenAI does not quantify either. Memory can draw on past chats, saved memories, custom instructions, Library files and connected apps.
• Dots. An always-on agent with its own cloud computer, for Pro users aged 18+ outside the EEA, Switzerland and the UK. One of OpenAI's own examples: turn an interview transcript into show notes and social posts. See the ChatGPT dots guide.
• Voice and images. Voice is Unlimited* on Pro (Expanded on Plus); image creation is "Unlimited and faster image creation". The asterisk means subject to abuse guardrails.

Plus vs Pro 100 vs Pro 200 for non-coders

OpenAI's comparison table has one Pro column that covers all three Pro tiers; the tiers differ in allowance, not features. Usage figures marked "reported" come from the press, not from OpenAI.

About the allowance. A Pro 200 bought now starts on the new, lower allowance (press reports put GPT-6 Pro in Chat at about 100 messages a week), unless the same account had an active Pro 200 between September 22 and September 29; from October 30 everyone is on it. OpenAI's Help Center only says that Pro 200 has more usage than Pro 100 and that higher tiers get higher Pro-model limits. Pro 500 (¥3,599 ≈ 536.37 USDT) adds Ultrafast, which only matters in Codex and ChatGPT Work, so it is rarely the right buy for writing or research.

What the extra money buys, computed from today's prices

• Plus → Pro 100: 99.11 USDT more a month buys GPT-6 Pro, Extra High, "Maximum" deep research, roughly double the input size and Space.
• Pro 100 → Pro 200: 67.07 USDT more a month buys only allowance.
• Per day: Plus ≈ 0.92 USDT, Pro 100 ≈ 4.23 USDT, Pro 200 ≈ 6.46 USDT over a 30-day order.
• Per GPT-6 Pro message, if you use the whole allowance: Pro 200 ≈ 0.46 USDT at the reported 100 a week; Pro 100 ≈ 0.60 USDT at the last published 50 a week shared. So for a heavy GPT-6 Pro user, Pro 200 is the cheaper message. This is an estimate built on press figures and on a number OpenAI has since removed; your Settings page is the authority.

Workflows by profile

These five profiles are our own grouping, not OpenAI tiers. They describe what ChatGPT can do, not professional advice; check important outputs against the sources.

Academic researcher

1. Create a project per paper or grant with up to 40 PDFs and an instruction such as your citation style.
2. Run deep research restricted to the sites you trust (Sites → Manage sites), review the plan, and export the cited report to Word.
3. Use GPT-6 Pro for the hard parts: checking a derivation, stress-testing a methods section, comparing results across papers in one 680-page input.
4. Upload recorded interviews or seminars as audio and turn them into notes, then verify quotes against the recording.

Watch out: outside Enterprise, ChatGPT reads only the text of a PDF, not embedded figures or scans. Fit: Pro 200 if you work like this daily, Pro 100 if a few times a week. U.S. life-sciences labs should look at OpenAI's Rosalind Academic Plan first: approved labs get up to 30 free Business Standard seats for up to 12 months.

Writer or editor

1. Keep a project per book or client with the style guide as project instructions, so every chat follows it.
2. Paste or upload a full manuscript: about 680 pages fit a reasoning model on Pro, 320 on Plus.
3. Transcribe interviews from audio, then ask for a structured draft or pull quotes.
4. Draft and revise inside Microsoft Word with the ChatGPT add-in, which uses the same shared allowance as Codex on Plus and Pro.

Fit: Pro 100 for book-length work or GPT-6 Pro editing passes; Plus if your drafts stay under 320 pages and High thinking is enough. Pro 200 only if you keep exhausting Pro 100's weekly Pro allowance. If the only thing you run out of is Word, Excel or PowerPoint usage, credits (¥180 ≈ 26.83 USDT per 500 credits) cover exactly those.

Analyst or consultant

1. Upload spreadsheets (XLSX or CSV up to about 50 MB) for data analysis and interactive charts.
2. Run deep research across the web plus connected sources such as Google Drive or SharePoint, where your plan and permissions allow.
3. Hand a multi-part question to GPT-6 Pro, which can now run parallel agents and show what each one did.
4. Turn the result into a deck with ChatGPT Slides in Space and export it to PowerPoint.

Fit: Pro 200; this is the profile that drains a Pro allowance fastest.

Lawyer or finance professional

1. Load long contracts, filings or reports into one reasoning-model chat (about 680 pages).
2. Use GPT-6 Pro for close reading; OpenAI's own Pro page mentions "dense case law" as a use.
3. Point deep research at the official sources you rely on, and check every citation it gives.
4. Lock sensitive chats (locked chats, since October 20) and decide on the training setting before you upload anything.

ChatGPT output is not legal or financial advice and can be wrong. On a personal plan, chats may be used for training until you switch off "Improve the model for everyone"; Business and Enterprise workspaces are not used for training by default, which may suit client work better. Fit: Pro 200 for daily heavy use, otherwise Pro 100.

Content team

1. Give each person their own account; OpenAI forbids sharing one.
2. The lead creates a shared project (up to 100 collaborators on Pro) with brand voice instructions and reference files; shared projects keep project-only memory.
3. Turn recorded interviews into show notes and social posts, by hand or with a dot.

Fit: one Pro 200 for the lead plus Plus for the others. For a team of 4, that is ≈ 276.46 USDT a month here, against ≈ 774.97 USDT for 4 Pro 200 accounts. Larger teams should compare ChatGPT Business seats in Pro 200 vs Business.

Limits to know before you pay

• GPT-6 Pro is not unlimited. At the limit the model is unavailable until it resets, and Support cannot reset it.
• Credits do not extend Chat. They cover Codex, ChatGPT Work, Word, Excel, PowerPoint; they add no GPT-6 Pro messages and no deep research tasks.
• Uploads have a rate limit. OpenAI's Pro page says "unlimited messages and uploads", but the Help Center lists 80 files every 3 hours for documents and images, possibly lower at peak times, and 25 GB of storage per user.
• Audio is best-effort. Very long recordings may time out; transcripts and speaker labels can be wrong.
• Deep research is not available in every country, and its counter resets every 30 days from first use rather than on your billing date.
• Everything still needs checking. Deep research gives citations so that you can verify them; do.

Who should not buy Pro 200

• Occasional users. If High thinking answers your questions and drafts stay under 320 pages, Plus (¥185 ≈ 27.58 USDT) is enough.
• Anyone who has never run out on Pro 100. Same features, half the price: ¥850 ≈ 126.68 USDT.
• People who only run out of Word, Excel or PowerPoint usage. Buy credits on Plus or Pro instead.
• Teams hoping to share one login. Use separate accounts and shared projects, or Business seats.
• Work that needs no-training-by-default or an enterprise agreement. Look at Business or Enterprise.
• EEA, Swiss or UK users buying for dots. Dots are not offered on Pro there at launch.
• Anyone outside OpenAI's supported countries. OpenAI serves only the countries on its supported list.

Getting Pro 200: the top-up keeps your projects and memory

The Pro 200 top-up is added to your own ChatGPT account, so projects, memory, custom instructions, deep research reports and chat history all stay. Free, Plus and Pro accounts qualify, so an active Plus or Pro 100 upgrades in place. Price: ¥1,300 ≈ 193.75 USDT.

1. Sign in to the account that holds your work: Open chatgpt.com with the account that has your projects, memory and chat history, and check Settings → My Plan. Free, Plus and Pro accounts all qualify for the Pro 200 top-up (new subscription, upgrade or renewal).
2. Pick the Pro 200 top-up: On the pricing page choose ChatGPT Pro 200 as a top-up on your own account and check the live price and stock.
3. Submit your session, checked first: Paste the session JSON the order page asks for. It is checked before you pay; if the check fails you pay nothing. Your password stays with you.
4. Pay in USDT: TRC20 or BEP20, exactly the amount shown on the order page. Each order covers 30 days.
5. Wait for activation: Usually 5 to 30 minutes, on the same account. The session data is used for this top-up only and cleared after delivery.
